DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING PRESERVATION & DEVELOPMENT
The NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) issues violations when a property doesn’t meet housing code standards. These can include things like broken or malfunctioning equipment, leaks, hygiene issues, pest infestations, or other problems that make the property unsafe, unhealthy, or unpleasant to live in..
If your property is reported or found to be in violation of any housing codes an inspector will issue you with a Notice of Violation (NOV), which you’ll have to correct and clear within the set time-frame. Failure to comply can result in fines and legal action.
